Nation Needs to Modernize Construction Sector, Says Deputy PM Demeke

Addis Ababa October 10/2018  Building a system that modernizes and brings excellence to the construction sector based on local capacity is crucial, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen said. Speaking at the 9th ADDISBUILD Expo at Millennium Hall today, Demeke said the national capacity created in the sector will enhance the success of other development projects in the country. Industry actors should work in cooperation to modernize the sector and the government should play a great role by building capacity and implementing reform, he stressed. The deputy prime minister noted that local construction equipment suppliers and service providers must be supported and due attention should be given to engineering fabrication. Construction Minister Aysha Ahmed said the ministry organized the expo to facilitate experience sharing and technology transfer that would ensure the development of the industry. It will also help to create market linkage and competition among private companies. Companies from Turkey, China, Germany, Greek, Italy, United Arab Emirates, and Ethiopia are taking part in the exhibition that will remain open from October 10-13, 2018.
