Addis Ababa November 8/2021 (ENA)The African Union Commission said that social media reports purporting to be an official internal memo attributed to the Chairperson of the Commission, allegedly calling for a temporary relocation of the Commission and its staff from Ethiopia is fake news.

It is to be recalled that some international media outlets have been engaged in disseminating fake news about the current situation in Ethiopia.

Particularly, CNN, Reuters and BBC are currently disseminating fake news in support of the terrorist group.

These media houses have few days back reported fake news as depicting that there is security problem in Addis Ababa and its surroundings.

Notably, the CNN reported that “Troops allied against Ethiopia's central government are on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.”

However, all these stories are fake as also proved by foreign journalists in Addis Ababa.

They confirmed to ENA during the weekend that there is no security problem in the capital and the information disseminated was false.

The Africa Union’s case could also be part of this campaign to destabilize the country by disseminating fake news.

The statement issued by the African Union Commission said that the Commission has learnt of the existence of a report circulating on social media purporting to be an official internal memo attributed to the Chairperson of the Commission, allegedly calling for a temporary relocation of the Commission and its staff from Ethiopia.

“The said report is fake news and has no basis in fact nor form,” AUC added in its statement.
