UN Representative, Amhara Region Officials Discuss Humanitarian Crisis

Addis Ababa November 7/2021 /ENA/ Representative of the United Nations (UN) and Amhara regional state officials today discussed in Bahir Dar on the humanitarian crisis due to the conflict in the region.
It was indicated during the discussion that more than 6 million people have been affected by TPLF’s invasion in the region and need humanitarian assistance.

Amhara Region President, Yilkal Kefale on the occasion said people from Kobo to Debre Birhan have been displaced several times.

The president further stated that it is difficult to know about the situation of over half of the displaced that have already been in the cities due to the incursion into Dessie and Kombolcha.

According to him, the crisis is getting worse as additional shelters are also needed to accommodate the displaced.  

He requested the UN to provide immediate assistance to the displaced in the form of food, shelter and water among other vital supplies.   

Amhara Region Emmergency Response Coordination Center Deputy Chairperson, Jenberu Dessie said more than 6 million people have been affected by TPLF’s invasion in the region and need humanitarian assistance.

About 1 million of those affected were displaced due to TPLF’s attack, Jemberu added.    

The deputy chairperson noted that the Internally Displaced People are in dire need of basic humanitarian assistances such as shelter, food, safe drinking water and other basic necessities.
