JTI, Japan Embassy Collaborate to Provide Scholarship for Disadvantaged Ethiopian Students

Addis Ababa,  May 21/2021(ENA)  The Japan Embassy in Ethiopia and Japan Tabaco International (JTI) in Ethiopia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU ) that enables them to work together in providing full scholarship for Ethiopian students.

During the signing ceremony, Japan's Ambassador Ito Takako said the framework has been set up to annually provide opportunity for Ethiopian students to study in Japanese universities as post-graduate students in the academic field of their choice.

“I am looking forwarded to seeing more Ethiopian students learning in Japan to further strengthen the cordial relations between Japan and Ethiopia,’’ she added.

Japan Tobacco International in Ethiopia General Manager, Grant Mowat said on his part the support is an extension of  JTI cooperation with the Government of Japan.

He pointed out that tobacco producing countries like Ethiopia include strategy to access education by providing scholarships to high performing students who are economically disadvantaged.

Mowat added, "We believe this opportunity will provide undergraduate, college technology students with opportunity to enhance and further develop knowledge and expertise by teaching them the highest quality of education in Japan which will contribute for the development of Ethiopia."

Japan's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ito Takako, and Japan Tobacco International in Ethiopia General Manager, Grant Mowat, signed the memorandum today.
