Ethiopia Expresses Condolences on Death of Prince Philip

Addis Ababa April 10/2021 (ENA) The Government of Ethiopia has expressed its condolences on the passing of Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II's husband.

HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died aged 99, Buckingham Palace has announced on Friday.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle,” statement from the Royal Family read.

Prince Philip, the longest-serving royal consort in British history, was at the Queen's side for more than her six decades of reign.

The Government of Ethiopia has expressed its condolences on the passing of Prince Philip  today.  

“The government and people of Ethiopia express their condolences to Her Majesty The Queen, the Royal Family, the UK Government, and the people of the United Kingdom on the passing of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh,” a statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

President Sahle-Work Zewde has also sent a letter of condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the passing of her husband, Prince Philip.

The president in her letter highlighted the great example of service to one’s nation displayed by the late Prince Philip and expressed condolences on her own behalf as well as that of the people and government of Ethiopia, according to Office of the President.

It is to be recalled that Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth and her husband Prince Philip visited Ethiopia at the invitation of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1965.
