City Police Arrests 34 Individuals Involved in Serious Crimes

Aprir 8/2021(ENA) Addis Ababa Police Commission announced that it has arrested 34 individuals involved in serious crimes in the capital city.

Addis Ababa Police Commissioner Getu Argaw has warned some media outlets and activists to refrain from spreading false information alleging that the city is facing security threat.

Crime and Traffic Accidents Investigation Deputy Commissioner, Hassan Negash briefed the media today about peace and security in the capital city and the implementation of COVID-19 protocol.

Police have seized 12 vehicles, television and computers, and apprehended 34 suspects along with looted properties.

The suspects detained were involved in serious crimes, including armed robbery on large institutions and organizations as well as attacks of individuals, it was learned.

The suspects were organized under three groups that located precious goods and money, another group which robbed the identified goods and money, and lastly a group that sells the stolen properties and money.

Addis Ababa Police Commissioner, Getu Argaw on his part warned the media and activists to refrain from spreading false information about the security situation in the city.

“We will take legal action if they are found guilty,” the commissioner underscored.

On the other hand, more than 4,180 newly recruited police officers have joined the commission to ensure peaceful conduct of the upcoming 6th General Election.

The commission has, however, expressed its concern about the public negligence with respect to preventing COVID-19.

The city police said it would take irreversible action against individuals who do not comply with the COVID-19 protocol.
