Ambassador Deriba, Director of Nordic Africa Institute Discuss on Current Issues in Africa, Ethiopia

March 31/2021(ENA) Ethiopian Ambassador to Sweden and other Nordic countries, Deriba Kuma discussed with director of the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI), Dr. Therese Sjömander Magnusson on the current issues in the Horn of Africa, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the discussion, Ambassador Deriba briefed the director on the current issues in the Horn of Africa including Ethiopia.

Deriba particularly explained in detail the progress made so far by the Government of Ethiopia in providing humanitarian service and normalizing the whole situation in the Tigray Regional State.

On the other hand, the Ambassador stressed the need to find an amicable solution to the border issue between Ethiopia and Sudan, for which he confirmed Ethiopia is always ready.

Similarly, Ambassador Deriba emphasized the critical importance of deploying ‘African solutions for African problems’ to the ongoing negotiations over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Dr. Magnusson on her part underscored the need for more research and knowledge production regarding critical challenges the Horn of Africa and Africa, in general, are facing.

She furthermore confirmed that her institute is strongly committed to cooperating in such areas with counterparts both in Ethiopia and Africa.

Both Ambassador Deriba and Dr. Magnusson promised to continue cooperating on areas of mutual interest.
