Consortium Finalizes Preparation to Make Election Free, Fair & Democratic

Addis Ababa March 3/2021 (ENA) The Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) has finalized preparations to contribute its parts toward making the 6th General Election free, fair and democratic.

 CEHRO Director, Mesud Gebeyehu told ENA that it will provide voters education, organize debates among political parties and contribute election observers.

According to him, the consortium has finalized preparations to hold political debates among competing political parties and to provide voters education in Addis Ababa City, Amhara, Oromia and Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples regional states of Ethiopia.

The director said, “We are ready to deploy 100 election observers and 52 trainers of voters education in the four regional states.”

Voters education will be given face to face and through radio and television, it was learned.

Mesud expressed his hope that the 6th General Election would be more competitive as well as free, fair and democratic than in the previous elections.

He urged all Ethiopians to contribute their share for the successful conclusion of the upcoming general election.

“I want to call on all Ethiopians to contribute their share to make this general election more fruitful than the previous ones. And also make it an election that transforms the practices of democracy in the country to a higher level,” the director said.

Mesud further stated that the public should actively participate in the election and exercise their rights to elect the political party they want to lead the country for next five years.

Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations is an association of Ethiopian civil society organizations working on advocacy of human rights, democracy and conflict management issues.
