Finance Minister Holds Talks with EU Officials, Briefs Community in Brussels

Addis Ababa March 26/2021 (ENA) Finance Minister Ahmed Shede, who held talks with EU officials in Brussels, concluded his working visit today by addressing Ethiopian community leaders on current situation in Ethiopia.

In his briefing, he explained to the community about the current democratization process in the country, including the upcoming national election.

According to Ethiopia’s Embassy in Brussels, he also discussed the economic reform underway and the ten-year development plan of the country.

Furthermore, he explained in detail the genesis of the legal enforcement operation in Tigray and the efforts underway post-operation to address humanitarian needs as well as the investigation on alleged human rights violations.

During his working visit to Brussels, Ahmed had fruitful exchanges with Commissioner for International Partnership Jutta Urpilainen, European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, and European Union Special Representative for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore, on various bilateral and regional issues of common concern, it was learned.

They all had expressed support for the efforts underway to tackle humanitarian
and human rights issues in the country, especially in the post-operation scenario in Tigray.

The discussion was conducted in a frank and cordial spirit by noting issues to be further addressed and the need to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership between the EU and Ethiopia, the press release of the embassy stated.
