FM bids Farewell to Outgoing AU Commission Deputy Chairperson

Addis Ababa March 4/2021 (ENA) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen bid farewell today to Kwesi Quartey, deputy chairperson of the African Union Commission.

Demeke thanked the Ghanian diplomat for his productive tenure and leading a commendable program at the commission.

The two sides also discussed the long-standing bilateral relations between Ghana and Ethiopia, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The deputy premier seized the opportunity to call African countries to come together under the AU Charter and work for the prosperity of their people.

He also briefed the deputy chairperson on the current situation in Ethiopia and the efforts and measures by the government to address the situation.

Demeke appreciated the stand taken by the African Union on the matter.

The outgoing deputy chairperson, Kwesi Quartey on his part said it was a privilege to serve in Ethiopia as an Ambassador of Ghana to Ethiopia before becoming deputy chairperson of the commission.

He thanked the Government of Ethiopia for the support it rendered to him during his stay in the country.
