Thousands of Ethiopians Attend Engineer Simegnew Bekele Funeral

Addis Ababa July 29/2018 The Project Manager of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Engineer Simegnew Bekele, has laid to rest today at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church in Addis Ababa. Thousands of mourners including President Mulatu Teshome, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonen and Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives Muferiat Kamil attended the funeral to pay their respects. Engineer Simegnew was founded dead in his car in Meskel Square, the center of Addis Ababa, on Thursday. The police are investigating expansively the conditions of his death. He gained his degree in civil engineering from Addis Ababa University and went on to direct Gibe I and Gilgel Gibe II dam projects before he became manager of GERD since the start of the project in 2011. He was born in 1965 in North Gondar Zone of Amhara Regional State and is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.
