Police Say GERD Project Manager Shot Under Right Ear

Addis Ababa  July 2/2018 Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) Project Manager, Engineer Simegnew Bekele died from a shot under his right ear, according to police. Briefing journalist today, Federal Police Commissioner General Zeynu Gemal said police have been gathering further evidences to determine the cause of his death. According to the Commissioner Genera, extensive investigation is underway; and suspects as well as people who were near the site are under examination. Zeynu advised some youth who spontaneously reacted angrily at the scene of the crime to refrain from destructive acts and patiently await the finding of the police that are handling the case carefully. Engineer Simegnew was the Project Manager of GERD, Ethiopia’s flagship hydropower dam, since the start of the project in 2011. The 53-year-old manager has also served as Project Manager of  Gilgel Gibe I hydropower dam.
