PM Abiy Starts Working Visit in Kenya

Addis Ababa, December 9/2020(ENA) Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has started his working visit to Kenya today. 

Upon arrival, Premier Abiy was accorded warmest welcome by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Abiy and Kenyatta are expected to inaugurate the 500 kilometers Hawassa-Moyale road project as part of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor. 

The 25 billion USD infrastructures LAPSSET Corridor Project is Eastern Africa’s largest and most ambitious infrastructure project bringing together Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

The extensive project involves a railway, a highway, a crude oil pipeline and a fiber-optic cable connecting the three countries.

The project will also include several airports, resort cities, an oil refinery, a 32-berth port in Lamu and other supporting infrastructure mini projects. 

Completion of the LAPSSET Corridor Project will enhance the position of the East African region as a gateway and transport-logistical hub.

The LAPSSET railway will also connect to West Africa’s Douala-Lagos-Cotonou-Abidjan Corridor, running through Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire respectively.

Africans envisaged on the LAPSSET project as a major contribution to the African Union’s regional integration vision of a peaceful, prosperous and fully integrated continent by 2063.
