Addis ababa, April 16/2020( ENA)The African Union Commission (AU) and the United Nations condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend funding to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, said the decision of the  government of the United States to cut funding to the WHO is “deeply regrettable”.

“Today more than ever, the world depends on WHO’s leadership to steer the global Covid-19 pandemic response,” he Twitted.

Similarly, United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has also denounced President Donald Trump’s decision to halt funding to the global agency.

UN’s health agency is “on the front lines, supporting Member States and their societies, especially the most vulnerable among them, with guidance, training, equipment and concrete life-saving services,” he said.

The work that WHO does is “absolutely critical” in combating the crisis, Guterres argued.

In his statement, the Secretary-General noted that “Now is the time for unity and for the international community to work together in solidarity to stop this virus and its shattering consequences.”

He alleged that “it was not the time to reduce resources for the WHO.”

Trump accuses the WHO “for its failure in its duties and its cover up for China was likely to led to a wider outbreak.”

However, Trump's move to cut funding to the organization has sparked condemnation from world leaders who appealed for cooperation and unity.
