Celebrated Athlete Donates 1.5 Mn Birr to COVID-19 Nat'l Resource Mobilization Committee

ENA,March 27/2020 The famous Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebresellassie has donated 1.5 million Birr in response to the call of the National Resource Mobilization Committee tasked with coordinating efforts of gathering financial and non-financial materials for COVID-19 today. 

The athlete made the donation in the name of the three companies, Marathon Motor Engineering PLC, Haile and Alem International PLC, and the Ethiopian Great Run, in which he holds interest.

During the handing over of the cheques, Haile Gebresellassie said the financial contribution will help the efforts of the government to halt the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

“This time we have to keep ourselves, our people and our country safe together,” he added.

Representative of the National Resource Mobilization Committee and State Minister of Trade and Industry, Mesganu Arega appreciated the support and noted that it would encourage others to response to the call for contribution.

He pointed out that “ we can overcome this crisis, only if we stand together as a nation.”

Mesganu further called on the public to provide support to save the country and overcome this  challenge.

It is to be recalled that the government launched a National Resource Mobilization Committee tasked with coordinating efforts of gathering financial and non-financial materials for COVID-19 emergency preparedness this week.
