The Victory of Adwa a Touchstone for Wining over Prevailing Nat’l Challenges: Journalists

ENA March 2/2020 The Victory of Adwa is undisputable touchstone for fighting and wining over the prevailing challenges facing the country, journalists said.
As part of the 124th celebration of the Adwa Victory, public and private media journalists are visiting the historical places that are part and parcel of the grand glory.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, Journalist Dawit Begashaw who is writing for the United Arab Emirates based Al ain Al akhbariya news, said the victory of Adwa is the practical example for the new generation to encounter challenges facing the nation in unison and win over.

Stating that Ethiopian gallants from across the country joined hands to courageously defeat the Italian aggressors, he pointed out “unity of our forefathers paid off in safeguard the sovereignty of the nation.”

“Ethiopians maintained the undisputed unity to fight against invaders in spite of their variances. Thus, we the present generation have due responsibility in replicating that unison and coherence,” Dawit stressed.

Media professionals, artists, researchers and others should do more in further promoting the assorted value of Adwa Victory, he said adding that “thereafter, the international community will be indulged towards visiting our more than century old patriotic history and other tourist attractions.”

Moreover, Dawit emphasized that media has to play the irreplaceable role in demonstrating and depicting the ever shining victory that many African countries considered it as exemplary for fighting against colonial super powers.

Fana Broadcasting Corporate’s journalist, Ashebir Kassahun on his part said the present generation is the demonstration of the past and extensive work is needed to transcend it to next generations.

He noted that media must play its role in branding the victory of Adwa across African continent and beyond.

Though many African countries took the Ethiopian flag as symbol and courage in regaining their independence from colonial powers, most of Africa’s new generations have little awareness about the victory of Adwa.

So, Ahebir said“this needs greater promotion of the media and its professionals to make out the historic victory as African pride.”

The victory of Adwa is battle checked well-armed Italian invaders’ attempt to build an Empire in Africa, where Ethiopia gallant forces defeated in March 1896 near the town Adwa in the northern region of Tigrai.

The outcome of this battle guaranteed Ethiopia’s sovereignty, making it the only African country never to be colonized, which turned Ethiopia into a symbol of freedom for black people globally. It also led to a change of government in Italy.
