EU to Deploy Observers for the Upcoming Ethiopia’s Elections

February 28/2020 ( ENA) European Union (EU) set to deploy Election Observation Mission for the upcoming Ethiopia’s general elections that scheduled to take place on August 29, 2020.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today received the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and EU Commission Vice President, Josep Borrell.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Abiy underlined that his government remains committed to forging ahead with the reforms begun almost two years ago.

Recalling critical political and economic milestones achieved, Premier Abiy shared the work being done by the government to further enhance milestones.

Speaking on regional peace and security, Abiy reiterated that ultimate sacrifices will be paid to realize peace in the region.

Josep Borrell on his part congratulated Prime Minister Abiy for his Nobel Peace Prize win and expressed that the EU is the biggest ally to Ethiopia.

He further affirmed continued support during the country’s democratic process and vowed to work closely together.

EU would deploy Election Observation Mission to Ethiopia’s upcoming general elections, he pointed out.

Josep Borrell arrived in Addis Ababa last Wednesday to attend the 10th EU-AU Commission to Commission Summit which is being held in headquarters of the African Union in Ethiopia.

Borrell will also travel to Sudan, on Saturday, and expected to meet Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and the Chairman of the Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
