64 Ethiopians Repatriated from Kenya

Addis Ababa August 7 /2019 Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi has repatriated 64 undocumented citizens who were detained in different jails in Kenya.

According to the press release sent to Ethiopian News Agency, the embassy has repatriated the returnees who have been under dire conditions in Kenya as trying to travel to South Africa hoodwinked by human traffickers.  The press release added the returnees have been brought to their homeland after a successive negotiation with Kenyan government.  

However, Kenyan police have been investigating five Ethiopians who are suspected of having a linkage with human traffickers.

Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi is working with various countries including Comoros, Malawi and Seychelles in order to protect the right and dignity of citizens from mistreatment.

It is to be recalled that the embassy returned 500 Ethiopians in May 2019. The government of Ethiopia has repatriated of over 112,600 returnees from 12 countries during the past fiscal year as the country is put into practice a new labor agreement.
