8th Tana Forum Opened

Addis Ababa  May 04/2019  The 8th Tana Forum that discusses on the security of the African continent has opened today in the town of Bahir Dar.

The forum is being held under the theme “Political Dynamics in the Horn of Africa: Nurturing the Emerging Peace Trends”

This year’s Tana Forum will deliberate on ways to support the political dynamics and pertinent geopolitical matters unfolding in the region in line with the recent political developments in the Horn of Africa and the rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The reestablished diplomatic relation between Ethiopia and Eritrea, the South Sudan peace process, the situation in Sudan as well as the cooperation between the leaders of horn African countries to bring stable diplomatic relation and development are the agendas of the Forum.

Opening the Forum Ethiopia’s President Sahilework Zewudie said that this kind of deep discussion and candid dialogue is necessary to promote African made solutions for African problems.

She said that the theme selected to represent this year’s forum is timely as the region is currently facing dynamic political changes that needs to be taken cautiously.

She said the political situation in Sudan, the peace process between South Sudanese parties and other geopolitical events in the horn needs more expert generated solutions.

Chairperson of the African Union Mussa Faki Mahamet on his part said that the African Union looks Tana Forum as an inspiring event for the security in the continent.

He said the Forum will help to show the exact problems in relation to peace and security as well the solution as the same time.

Through the forum, governments and member states can get opportunities on how to manage peace and security challenges and bring about integration, he added.

More than 300 guests including former heads of states and governments, political experts, representatives international organizations and different organizations have been participating on the Forum.
