Japan Extends 729,000 USD Support to Peace Support Training Center

Addis Ababa April 19/2019 The Japanese government has extended 729,000
USD for projects to be carried out by the Ethiopian Peace Support Training Center (PSTC).

The agreement was signed today by PSTC Acting Head Brigadier General Habtamu Tilahun and UNDP Country Director Louise Chamberlain.

The projects to be undertaken in a year are capacity building and institutional capacity enhancement and training projects for the center.

During the signing ceremony, PSTC Acting Head Habtamu said the assistance is the continuation of Japan’s and UNDP’s financial and technical supports, respectively, to strengthen institutional and human capacities.

The amount will be used to improve training facilities and implement various training programs to address gaps identified within both AU and UN peace operations as “they will build skills and improve multi-dimensional peacekeeping operations of the military and the police forces,” he added.

Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Daisuke Matsunaga stated on his part that Japan’s commitment for PSTC has continued since 2010 as Ethiopia’s role in peace and security is high especially in the region. He noted that Ethiopia is the cornerstone of the peace and security architecture in the Horn of Africa region.

Since 2012, Japan has provided 2,549,000 USD support for PSTC, it was learned.
