Addis Ababa February 27/2019 Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration (EFDA) has launched software that enables importers to manage licensing, registration, import request and approval process online today.

The software called Electronic Regulatory Information System has fully replaced the traditional paper based work.

The digital system will increase processing efficiency, transparency and facilitates one unbroken chain of information from application to ports, it was learned.

It also improves inventory management and prevents waste.

The software has three subsystems that work together, namely i-License, that allows entities to apply for certificate of competency, registration and import products; i-Register that manages the market authorization where an applicant seeks to register medical products in Ethiopia for later import; and i-Import, which manages the import process for medical products once registered in Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Food and Drug regulates over 31,000 service providers.
