EU-IGAD Discusses to Heighten Mutual Cooperation

Addis Ababa January 23/2019 The third Round of EU-IGAD Consultation meeting held in Brussels yesterday on the margins of the AU-EU Ministerial assembly, Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The meeting was chaired by State Minister Hirut Zemene representing the IGAD and on the EU side by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherini.

They held fruitful exchanges on ways of strengthening cooperation between European Union (EU) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in the areas of peace and security.

They discussed on concrete cooperation that could advanced  the light of positive developments in the region ranging from Ethio-Eritrea rapprochement to Somalia and South Sudan peace process in the Horn.

They highlighted opportunities strengthening gains made in the region through advancing integration and cooperation to continue in fighting against terrorism and reducing threats of peace and security of the region.

The IGAD members expressed their gratitude for the multi-faceted support extended to the region, while the EU shows its commitment to continue support peace, security and integration of the region.
