PM Abiy Confers with WBG Interim President, Georgieva

Addis Ababa  January 23/01/2019 PM Abiy Ahmed met the interim President of the World Bank Group, Kristalina Georgieva at Davos, Switzerland this morning.

On the sideline of the World Economic Forum being held in Davos, the two sides shared views on new pipeline projects having regional and national dimensions.

Appreciating the robust and strong technical and financial shore up of the World Bank, Premier Abiy asked Georgieva to persist its support for Ethiopia. 

Georgieva on her part said WBG remains Ethiopia’s reliable partner for development finance and expertise.

The Bank is one of the development partners of Ethiopia helping to fight poverty and improve living standards by promoting rapid economic growth and improving service delivery of the country.

On October, 2018, the World Bank has approved the first sizeable sum of budgetary support to the tune of 1.2 billion USD for Ethiopia following a sweeping package of reforms the country has so far conducted.

This made the World Bank (WB) to provide Ethiopia with biggest budgetary support in Sub-Sahara African countries.
