Epiphany Festivity Preaches Peace for Humanity, Say Clergymen

Addis Ababa January 20/2019 Timket (Epiphany) festivity preaches humanity among the people of the world to live in peace and harmony, said clergymen and Christian Orthodox followers.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, Merigeta Alem Engida, a clergyman from Betemariam Monasteryin Addis Ababa, said Epiphany preaches love, peace, unity, mercy and integrity for all mankind regardless of race and color.

“Jesus Christ taught love, peace and mercy, therefore, Epiphany is a big national festivity which unites the people with the doctrines taught by Jesus Christ,” he added.

The festivity brings solidarity among Ethiopians as the Epiphany is celebrated with respecting, lend a hand and helping one another, he noted.

Zewengel Zeleke, who is a gospeller in Arada St. George Church in the capital, said Epiphany is a symbol of Ethiopian concord that pull people to the same place to pray and sing for peace, unity and integrity.

“When people celebrating, singing and praying together, they promote solidarity among them” he said, adding that “Epiphany is happiness, and happiness is peace.”

Yeshiwork Getachew, who came to celebrate the Epiphany in Addis Ababa, said on her part Timket festivity has important social values which foster bondage between the people of Ethiopia.

“We parents should teach the social values of Epiphany to our children in the right way,” she added.

She pointed out that apart from its spiritual importance, Epiphany is a cultural heritage of all Ethiopian.

The annual Timkat festival, an Orthodox Christian celebration of Epiphany, remembers the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan river.
