President, Chinese FM Confer on Issues of Common Interest

Addis Ababa January 03/2019 President Sahlework Zewde and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed about bilateral and international issues of common interest at the National Palace today.

The leaders agreed to strengthen comprehensive strategic relations and reached consensus on how to take additional measures that widen cooperation in trade and investment.

President Sahlework said on the occasion Ethiopia will continue to strengthen all-round relationship with China.

Foreign Minister Wang said on his part Ethiopia is a front partner of China in Africa and China will remain a reliable partner of Ethiopia.

He added that China is confident that the new President will make new contribution to Ethiopia-China relationship like her predecessor.

Wang said President Sahlework had told him that though there have been change of leadership in Ethiopia, Ethiopia’s policy towards China will not change.

He further pointed out that China supports the ongoing reform in Ethiopia and “we are confident that the people of Ethiopia have the wisdom and the capacity to find an effective and successful development path that fits Ethiopia’s national conditions.”

At FOCAC submit China announced eight major initiatives of Africa cooperation, he stated.

According to the minister, the purpose of his visit is to kick off the country specific plans for the implementation of the eight major initiatives of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
