FM Workneh Bids Farewell to Outgoing UK Ambassador Moorehead

Addis Ababa January  02/2019  Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu bade farewell to the outgoing UK Ambassador to Ethiopia Susanna Moorehead this morning.

The minister thanked and appreciated Moorehead‘s endeavor to enhance and complement relations between Ethiopia and UK, highlighting the true friendship and common vision both countries enjoy, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During their discussion, Workneh told the Ambassador that his government will give much attention to building strong, independent and credible institutions to realize the reform.

“Independent, strong and trustworthy institutions are vital bedrocks to bring progress in democratization, and we call on the international community to support our endeavor in this regard,” he added.

FM Workneh further stressed the need for bolstering trade and investment ties between Ethiopia and the United Kingdom.

Ambassador Susanna Moorehead lauded the ongoing reform in Ethiopia and added that “the UK is keen to support Ethiopia in human capital development, job creation and institution building.”

 “I’m pleased to witness Ethiopia’s political transition during my tenure of duty and Ethiopia has been a stabilizing force in a difficult and highly uncertain region,” she stated.

Workneh awarded Ambassador Moorehead Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her outstanding contribution in enhancing the bilateral ties between Ethiopia and the UK.

The United Kingdom was among the first countries to open an embassy in Addis Ababa, while Ethiopia was the first African country to establish an embassy in London.
