Attorney General Vows to Continue Bringing Criminals, Human Rights Abusers to Justice
Addis Ababa January 01/2019 The Attorney General said today that it will continue bringing suspected human rights abusers and corrupt persons to justice.
This was disclosed at a 5-month performance report hearing of the Attorney General to the House of People’s Representatives.
Attorney General Berhanu Tsegaye said on the occasion ensuring the rule of law and human rights have continued to be key agenda of the institution.
Organized crime, human rights abuse, economic and corruption crimes are given special attention, he added.
The desires of victims of abuse of human rights who notify the institution about the atrocities committed on them to date are seeking truth and justice rather than compensation.
The whereabouts of thousands of citizens is still unknown, the Attorney General said, adding that the office has been gathering evidences to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Evidences are being collected to detain those hiding inside the country and abroad. Suspects are hiding in all the regional states, according to Berhanu.
The Attorney General stressed that anyone who committed crime is bound to face justice, no matter their political contributions.
He noted that the detention of suspected criminals has nothing to do with ethnicity and rejected the assertion that regional states were not requested to arrest suspects.
Members of the House of People’s Representatives on their part urged the Attorney General to intensify its efforts to arrest criminals and bring them to justice.
