Ethiopia to Host 8th Int’l Pulses, Oilseeds and Spices Conference

Addis Ababa November 16/2018 The 8th Annual International Conference on Pulses, Oilseeds and Spices to be held in Addis Ababa from November 23-24, 2018 with a theme “Cultivating Strategic Partnership".   According to Ministry of Trade and Industry, over 450 participants of whom 110 are from 20 foreign countries including China, UAE, and India among others would take part in the conference with critical studies to be presented. The conference targeted to share the international experiences in the sector, to exchange information about the current status of the international pulses and oilseeds and creating market ties among others. The Conference is organized by the Ethiopian Pulses, Oilseeds and Spices Processors-Exporters Association (EPOSPEA) in collaboration with Ministry of Trade and Industry, will be critical to expand and strengthen the existing ties, according to the association. It further stated that the conference mainly aimed at strengthening and expanding the existing as well as new market linkages and outlets to diverse products. The pulses, oilseeds and spices sector is one of the largest components of Ethiopia's agricultural sector and it vastly contributes to Ethiopia's economic growth nearly next to coffee.   Ethiopia, with close to 200, 000 tons of export, is the largest provider of sesame seed to China, world's largest importer of the product, which China constitutes 70 percent of Ethiopia's overall sesame export.   The pulses, oil seeds and spices are noteworthy export products that help the country to secure yearly over 600 million USD.
