Ethio-India Trade, Investment Booming

Addis Ababa November 14/2018 Trade and investment between Ethiopia and India have significantly been growing over the years, Ethiopia’s Consulate-General to India, Demeke Atnafu said. Demeke told Indian travelBinz Magazine that the centuries old long-standing economic and commercial relations between Ethiopia and India have kept growing. Data show that India is Ethiopia’s second source of import covering about 7.4 percent of its total while Ethiopia’s export stands at 65 million USD. With the opening up of the Ethiopian economy in recent years, the Consulate-General pointed out “business ties between the two countries have grown significantly, especially in the areas of trade, investment, agriculture and infrastructure projects.” Furthermore, he articulated “the economic dimension of the bilateral relationship has now become most important.” Speaking of Ethiopian Airlines role in fostering ties between the two countries, Demeke explained that with its geocentric advantage, located amidst of the fastest trade lane, Ethiopian currently offers convenient network of connectivity between Africa, and India, double daily flights from Addis to Mumbai and Delhi.
