Premier Abiy Creates a Spirit of Hope Among the People- Experts

Addis Ababa May 11/2018 Prime Minster Abiy Ahmed has created a spirit of hope among the people and is leading the country on the right track, experts said. In an exclusive interview with ENA, experts said they would share his ambitions and expressed their strong belief in his leadership in the fight against corruption. Head of the School of Journalism and Communications at Addis Ababa University, Assistant Professor Mekuria Mekasha said the discussions the Premier has made so far with the people of Ethiopia and neighboring countries is "what is expected from a  quality leader." “He is filling the gap that existed before, which is less communication between the leader and electorate, and the speeches he made in Oromia, Amhara, Hawasa and other parts of the country has created peace and initiated a new hope among the people of Ethiopia." Mekuria pointed out that the visits the Prime Minister has made to the neighboring countries is important in boosting up bilateral ties with neighboring countries and "is a smart move". Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law and Federalism at Civil Service University, Dr. Solomon Barnabas told ENA that the Prime Minister in first one month in office helps to sustain peace and stability in the country. "Within the 30 days of the Prime Minister's work the discussions he held and the speeches he made is very essential to sustain peace and indicated peaceful power transfer." He added the initiative he took regarding fighting corruption is also commendable and must be in practice by enforcing the rule of law. Alongside of the discussions in the country Prime Minister Abiy has also met with neighboring countries leaders of Sudan Djibouti and Kenya and signed various agreements that are vital for Ethiopia. "Among the agreements, the release of Ethiopian prisoners detained in Sudan and Kenya is very important move of the Prime Minister." Dr. Costantinos Berhutesfa, Professor of Public Policy at Addis Ababa University, said on his part "what the Prime Minister has been doing so far is to go around and listen to the community and install hope in the young people and the wide population." “The population is ready to support the new Prime Minister in his initiatives. The fact that the public violence subsided overnight all over the country, especially in Oromia is an example. This proves that the impact of the Prime Minister’s meeting with the different sectors of the population is bearing results.” He added that having discussions with important neighboring country is basic both from the economic and security point of view as Djibouti is Ethiopia’s main economic corridor and Sudan is sharing similar geo-political settings.
