UK, Germany Pledged to Extend Support for Ethiopia's Education Sector

Addis Ababa August 20/2018United Kingdom and Germany have pledged to consolidate financial and technical support for Ethiopia's education sector. The two countries have expressed their commitment to support Ethiopia's newly introduced educational quality improvement program. Human Development Team Leader of United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, Richard Arden said UK is committed to assist the educational roadmap, which is a general education quality improvement program for equity. “UK is so pleased to this effort both technologically and financially, which wants to be part of the process,” he said. According to him, over the past ten years his country has engaged in supporting Ethiopia's development goals through UK's Department for International Development particularly in education, health and WASH programs. He also appreciated Ethiopia for its success story in improving educational coverage. “I believe Ethiopia has made great achievement in the last 10 years and we should recognize it as achievement,” Arden stated. Project Manager to German Development Bank, Peter Uaats said on his part that Germany has been providing assistance to Ethiopia in the spheres of vocational education and training (TVET) and in higher education institutions. He further stated that German Development Bank is on the way to enhance financial and technical assistance specially, in engineering to capacitate young educators. Ethiopia is a viable African country for Germany’s support, he said and adding that "the assistance will be strengthen in facilitating Ethiopian educational infrastructure." Today Ethiopia has launched a first round “Educational Development Roadmap”, where Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed presided over the launching ceremony.
