Ethio-Sudan Railway Joint Committee Meeting Project Proceeding in Khartoum

May 18/2021 (ENA) The Ethio-Sudan Railway Project Joint Technical Committee meeting is underway in Khartoum to discuss on the feasibility study of the project.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the Republic of Sudan, Yibeltal Aemero and Undersecretary for Ministry of Transport of Sudan, Mohamed Basher delivered opening remarks at the meeting.

According to Ethiopian Embassy in Sudan, the meeting comprising officials and experts from the railway corporations of the two countries will continue to deliberate on the standard gauge railway project until 9^th May 2021.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Yibeltal highlighted the longstanding people-to-people relations as well as strong economic and social ties between Ethiopia and Sudan.

He stated that the railway transport will play key role in strengthening regional economic integration and beyond.

The ambassador further noted the significance to see beyond the existing temporary challenges and to focus on fields of strategic infrastructure development and economic cooperation that benefit the peoples of Ethiopia and Sudan.

In this regard, Yibeltal reiterated the commitment of the Government of Ethiopia to the successful completion of the Ethio-Sudan Railway project.

Undersecretary for Ministry of Transport of Sudan, Mohamed Basher, on his part said railway transport is an important transport infrastructure that will further help to enhance the economic relations between Ethiopia and Sudan.

He assured that the Government of Sudan will provide the necessary support for the successful completion of the project.
