President Urges Inter-Religious Council to Bolter Success, Uphold Peace and Stability

Addis Ababa March 10/2021 (ENA) President Sahle-Work Zewde urged Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia (IRCE) to strengthen the successes it has registered during the last 10 years and uphold peace and stability in the country.

The tenth year anniversary of Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia was celebrated today in the presence of President Sahle-Work Zewde.

The president urged IRCE to consolidate the successes it has achieved during the last 10 years and uphold peace, harmony and stability.

According to her, over 90 percent of Ethiopians are religious and listen to what religious leaders teach them as they respect them.

In this regard, Sahle-Work appreciated the council for promoting peaceful coexistence and upholding peace since its establishments and urged them to keep up the good work in collaboration with stakeholders.

“Now you need to continue your good jobs and strengthen the council in the coming years. I want to call for all to contribute their share to make peace and tolerance flourish in Ethiopia,” she stressed.

Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia Secretary General, Liqe Tiguhan Tagay Tadele said on his part the council, in partnership with various organizations, has been playing an important role in promoting peaceful coexistence and harmony.

IRCE has been upholding peace and stability in the country by providing national dialogue  forums, workshops and training on peace building, conflict and harmful traditional practices prevention, human trafficking, gender-based violence, among others, he added.

Liqe Tiguhan Tagay noted that “religious institutions and leaders need to work, discuss, argue and advise for respect and equality of human beings so that truth, justice and peace could prevail. The council is ready to execute its responsibilities in planning and coordination and bring tangible results.”  

Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia was established in 2010 with the view to developing religious freedom and equality, based on peace, love and tolerance.
