Addis Ababa July 12/2018 President Mulatu Teshome bid farewell today to the outgoing Austrian Ambassador Andreas Melan. The President and Ambassador Melan discussed about strengthening bilateral relations, particularly trade and investment. Mulatu called on Austrian government to encourage investors to engage in investment and trade. Austria's Ambassador to Ethiopia Melan said “I have seen the impressive developments of your country, particularly in the last month. We all welcome the latest development with Eritrea.” The government of Austria is supporting the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) with about 17 million USD, it was learned Currently, there are about 8 Austrians with about 2.2 billion birr investment in Ethiopia. With respect to strengthening IGAD in the European Union projects, the Ambassador said “we will double our staff for the next years because this is a project of about 46 million Euros.” Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Austria dates back to the 19th century.
