Pope Francis Appreciates Ethio-Eritrea Peace Efforts

Addis Ababa July 02/2018 Pope Francis has appreciated the efforts of the leaders of Ethiopia and Eritrea to establish peaceful relationship.   In his message to the congregation gathered at St. Peter's Square on Sunday, Pope Francis said "in the midst of so many conflicts, it's dutiful to point out an initiative that can be called historic." Francis expressed hope that having the governments "speak together of peace" after 20 years would "turn on a light of hope for these two countries in the Horn of Africa and for the entire African continent." Speaking at a press conference last week, Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyhu said the leaders of the two countries would meet soon and discuss peaceful relations. The Eritrean government high-level delegation had visited Ethiopia last week.
