PM Issues a Message on Hawzen Martyers Day

Addis Ababa june22/2018Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed issues a commemorative message marking the mass extermination of 2,500 innocent citizens thirty years ago by the Derg regime at the Hawzen town, Tigrai Regional State. The bloody massacre at Hawuzen is one of the most unprecedented atrocities perpetrated by the Derg air force. “The martyrs of Hawzen are the bedrocks of our identity and freedom,” the Prime Minister said. His memorial message was dedicated to the bloody massacre inflicted on the residents of Hawzen town on May 23, 1988. “I would like to seize this opportunity to express my deep sorrow and broken heart on the inhuman massacre mercilessly perpetrate on my fellow citizens,” the Prime Minister expressed his deep agony in his message. Premier Abiy said "the grief and sorrow on what has happened on that unfortunate day will remain with us as we continue to mark the day." Every citizen is expected to continue to remember, honor and record the vandalism that the martyrs of Hawzen had experienced in the annals of Ethiopian history and the government will continue to support all efforts to refresh the glory and honor of the martyrs. He said based on the lessons drawn from this horrific massacre, the government reaffirms its commitments and vows to ensure that such a horrific incident shall never again occur in our country. The lofty goals of the government can only be successful when the public ensures its support for the positive accomplishments and employ logical reasoning in criticizing on what the government would err, he added.
