Presidents Sahlework, Museveni Confer on Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

ENA,march 13/2020 President Sahlework Zewdie has conferred today with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and wide ranging bilateral, regional, and international matters of mutual interest, according to the Office of the President. 

President Sahlework briefed the Ugandan leader about the negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

President Museveni on his part reiterated the importance of ensuring equitable and sustainable use of the Nile River waters.

He emphasized the need to urgently convene a Summit of the Nile Basin Commission so that the heads of state could have a frank discussion on the issues of the Nile.

The two leaders recognized the strategic importance of the river for all the riparian countries and the livelihood of their peoples and the need to solve issues within the framework of African solutions to African problems.

Moreover, the leaders exchanged views on a wide ranging bilateral, regional, and international matters of mutual interest.

They also noted with satisfaction the cordial relations that exist between the countries and the existing cooperation in various fields, including transport, trade, tourism, defense, and security; further pledging to continue working closely for their mutual benefits.

President Sahlework finally expressed her appreciation to President Museveni, the government and the people of Uganda for the warm hospitality extended to her and her delegation.
