ENA,March 10/2020 The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Gedu Andargachew yesterday held talks with Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission regarding the status of the ongoing negotiation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

During the discussion, AU Chairperson underlined that the negotiation on GERD should strike a fair deal benefiting all stakeholders.

Gedu on his part reiterated that the negotiations on the GERD should be held in line with the principle of fair, equitable and reasonable utilization of transboundary natural resources.

Ethiopia has been exerting unreserved efforts to realizing the equitable utilization of the Nile water with the aim to generate power to fulfill local demand and export energy to neighboring regions by considering concerns raised by downstream countries towards the construction of the dam.

It is with this in mind that Ethiopia entered into talks in order to build trust and confidence among downstream countries, according to the recent statement issued by the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
