Addis Ababa December 15/2018 The funeral of former president Girma Woldegiorgis will be held on Wednesday at the Trinity Church in Addis Ababa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.
Briefing to Journalists today, Foreign Affairs State Minister, Birtukan Ayano said the House of Peoples’ Representatives is expected to declare a national mourning day to commemorate the late Girma in its Tuesday deliberations.
She said that an 11-members committee has set up to oversee the state funeral.
The members of the committee are drawn from the office of the Prime Minister, the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, and Defense, as well as Federal Police.
High level government officials and religious leaders along with family members and relatives will attend the funeral.
Girma Woldegiorgis served for two consecutive terms, between 2001 and 2013, as president of Ethiopia.
Born in 1924, the late Girma served his country in various posts since the imperial period.
