Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day Celebrated Colorfully

Addis Ababa December 08/2018 The 13th Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day was celebrated colorfully in the presence of President Sahelwork  Zewede  at the Addis Ababa Stadium today.

In her address to the gathering, President Sahelework underscored the importance of promoting the spirit of coexistence and peace among the peoples of the country.

She called on all Ethiopians to think of what is to be done to promote the development and unity of the country.

Speaker of the House of Federation, Keria Ibrahim stressed the need for upholding the spirit of unity, equality and focusing on what unites the peoples of the country instead of building fences based on differences.

Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa, Takele Ouma stated that “this year’s celebration of Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day is being celebrated at a time when the government is conducting comprehensive reform to ensure rapid economic growth, unity of the country, and justice and equitable access to resources of the country.”

He stressed on the importance of creating a generation that looks beyond the horizon to ascertain sustained development of the country

Takele said the representatives of the peoples of Ethiopia gathered cannot be considered as guests in Addis Ababa because the city also locally known as Sheger belongs to every Ethiopian.

Members of the council of ministers, government officials, and representatives of nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia as well as residents of Addis Ababa have also attended the celebration.

Traditional dances of the various nations and nationalities in Ethiopia and drama   were performed by cultural groups with traditional attires of the peoples of Ethiopia. Army and federal police brass bands also made the event colorful.

Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day is celebrated each year in December in line with the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
