Int’l Human Rights Day to be Celebrated in Ethiopia in Special Way: UN Human Rights

Addis Ababa December 04/2018 International Human Rights Day (IHRD) will be celebrated in Ethiopia in a special way next week as positive changes are taking place in the country.

Speaking at a joint press statement held today, UN Human Rights Regional Office Representative Nwanneakolam Vwede-Obahor announced that IHR Day is going to be celebrated on December 10, 2018 in a special way thinking about the positive changes that are happening in Ethiopia.

Office of the High Commissioner for UN Human Rights and Ethiopian Human Rights Commission are collaborating to organize the event, she added.

Ethiopian Human Right Commission Chairperson Addisu Gebre-Egziabher said on his part the day will be celebrated by further creating awareness on respecting human rights in the country.

He added that high government officials, political party leaders, elders, religious leaders, UN and AU diplomatic communities and representatives from the civil society organizations are expected to participate in the event.

Addisu stated that leaders will also hopefully get inspired to think and revise their laws and policies without contradicting the United Nations Declarations on Human Rights on their return to the respective countries, countries to improve the culture of respecting human rights.
