Norway Lauds Ethiopia’s Ongoing Reform

Addis Ababa October 23/2018 Norway has praised the ongoing sweeping reform in Ethiopia and the recent peace accord reached with Eritrea.

State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Jens Frolich Holte has praised the ongoing reform and Ethio-Eritrea peace deal.

According to a statement from MoFA, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Afework Kassu met with Norwegian delegation led by State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Jens Frolich Holte, today.

Holte said during the occasion that his country enjoys excellent diplomatic relations with Ethiopia. He praised the ongoing reforms in the country and the rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

He also commended Ethiopia’s ideal move for gender parity. He also took note of the important initiatives Ethiopia is taking to bring lasting peace, security and economic development in the Horn of Africa.

“A lot of positive developments are happening in the region,” he added. The state secretary reiterated his country’s commitment to work closely with Ethiopia on bilateral and multilateral platforms.

Afework said on his part that Ethiopia and Norway have longstanding diplomatic relations, adding that the two countries have established important cooperation on development issues including technical collaborations in the areas of health, education, agriculture, research and environmental issues.

“The trade and investment relations are also growing,” he added. The State Minister applauded Norway’s support to the efforts of brining lasting peace in the Horn Africa, both unilaterally and through the TROIKA.

Regarding to the ongoing reforms in Ethiopia, Afework said the government is taking radical reform measures to widen the political space, bring sustainable peace and development as well as advance democratization.

He noted that the government’s privatization schemes and called on the Norwegian investors to seize these investment opportunities.
