Over 1 Mln Youth Volunteers to Provide Service in Capital City

Addis Ababa June 13/2018 The Addis Ababa Youth Summer Voluntary Service which involves more than 1 million volunteers will begin early July, according to the Youth and Sport Bureau.

The 16th summer voluntary service is organized by Addis Ababa Youth and Sport Bureau in cooperation with Addis Ababa Youth Federation.

Briefing to journalists today, Addis Ababa Youth and Sport Bureau Head Nigatu Dagnachew said the number of youth volunteers has been increasing.

The service of volunteer university students is especially in high demand as they provide free tutorial services for children of poor families.

Addis Ababa Youth Federation Vice President Abayneh Asmare said the service includes tree planting, traffic safety service, cleaning the city, helping the elderly, and awareness creation activities on HIV/AIDS.

He estimated the voluntary services provide a year ago, to have saved 50 million birr.

The voluntary service will last over two months.
